Overview
Caritas Nakuru, also serving as the Planning and Development Office of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, was established in 1973 to respond to social, economic, educational, health, and development needs of vulnerable communities. Guided by Catholic Social Teaching, it works across Nakuru and Baringo Counties through charity, development, advocacy, humanitarian action, and evidence-based programme coordination.
Mandate
Serve as the focal and strategic unit for planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of diocesan development programmes. Caritas facilitates development planning and budgeting, strengthens partnerships, promotes accountability and learning, mobilizes resources, and coordinates programmes that uphold human dignity.

Promotes Village Savings and Loan Associations, entrepreneurship, climate-smart agriculture, income-generating activities, and community-based economic resilience.
Improves access to safe water and sanitation through rainwater harvesting, gravity water schemes, rehabilitation of water sources, hygiene promotion, and sanitation infrastructure in schools and communities.
Supports school infrastructure, feeding programmes, vulnerable learners, medical outreaches, faith-based facilities, community health programmes, and affordable quality healthcare.
Addresses child protection, Gender-Based Violence, Female Genital Mutilation, safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults, social inclusion, advocacy, and policy development.
Rehabilitates and reintegrates street-connected children and youth, empowers caregivers, and supports five Small Homes that provide rehabilitation, healthcare, education, psychosocial support, inclusion, and vocational training for children and youth with disabilities.
Through the Catholic Justice and Peace Department, promotes peaceful coexistence, civic participation, good governance, human rights, conflict management, environmental stewardship, and community cohesion.
Supports churches, schools, hospitals, vocational institutions, water systems, and technical/vocational training that improve essential services and pathways to self-reliance.
